#VFS22 Sustainable Innovation Leader Award Interview: Aimee Dobson
Brand Conscience pitched their idea during #VFS22 to simplify sustainability and introduced their sus’d scoring solution.
It’s a simple and universal ‘traffic-light’ coloured label on fashion products which measures the things that really matter – production, longevity, recyclability, mileage and company kindness.
By giving consumers all this information in the space of a simple ‘at a glance graphic’ – it’s a clever solution to encourage better buying habits. Their vision is to shift making sustainable choices to a simple standard for retailers and shoppers, skipping past all the complexities.
We wanted to check up on Brand Conscience and find out where they’re at in their start-up journey since #VFS22. The innovation event is packed with networking opportunities – Brand Conscience found themselves talking with local councils that were wanting to support SMEs in the area. Through these new connections, Brand Conscience have released their module ‘Becoming Net Positive’ and will be launching a new cohort each month.
In the near future, the winners of the Sustainable Innovation Award will be entering new consumer product groups, including accessories, chocolate and toys. Through a significant interest in their work, they will also be exploring the food and beauty industry.
Brand Conscience’s Comms and Research Lead, Aimee Dobson, encourages young innovators to get involved in future VFS events and says:
“Absolutely, it’s a very friendly event with lots of opportunities to network, advertise and get feedback for your business. We thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Open Mic’ section as this gave us the floor for telling a group of people all about our business and allowed for the opportunity of Q&A with the audience”.
Have you got an innovation you could showcase at the next #VFS? Aimee’s advice for all entering the next VFS includes:
“Prepare and enjoy everything! Don’t be shy, go and network, and enter everything”.
Looking back on their #VFS experience, Brand Conscience proudly shared that they got a lift from attending the event and that the publicity they received was brilliant.
We’re excited to see what’s next for the team at Brand Conscience and we’ll be looking out for their journey to bringing transparency into sustainability.
